Evacuation warnings lifted for brush fire in Anitoch

One person was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, officials said.

Evacuation warnings were lifted for a brush fire in Antioch that reached 209 acres as of late Wednesday night, officials said, but firefighters still were working to contain the blaze Thursday morning.

The fire, dubbed the Somersville Fire, is off Somersville Road and was first reported just after 7 p.m. It was 50% contained as of Thursday morning.

Officials initially began conducting evacuations "off of Cambridge Drive" then advised residents near Finch Drive, Markley Creek, Osprey and Cambridge Avenue to prepare for evacuations. Those near Grimsby Drive, Hamlin Drive, Lafayette Drive, Tabora Drive, Silver Creek Circle and James Donlon Boulevard were also advised to prepare for an evacuation.

Evacuation warnings were lifted for a vegetation blaze in Antioch that has burned over 20o acres Wednesday night, officials said. Alyssa Goard and Vianey Arana have the latest details.

"[R]esidents may return to their homes," the Antioch Police Department said later Wednesday night.

The Bay Area Air District issued an air quality advisory due to the smoke from the blaze.

"Smoke from this brush fire is expected to impact air quality in eastern Contra Costa County on Wednesday evening," the agency said. "Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict."

People are advised to stay indoors and keep doors and windows shut.

Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, the smell of smoke is possible and air quality may become unhealthy.

Crews also set up structure protection, Con Fire said.

Cal Fire is assisting in battling the blaze.
